Our Inclusive Circus Projects

Our mission is to create accessible and inclusive circus projects for people of all ages, who are curious to try out a circus class.

We collaborate with Aberdeen-based charities and organisations, creating projects that offer accessible classes for children and adults with neurodivergence and/or additional support needs.

We’re currently in the process of writing new projects, so stay tuned as this page grows.

Instructor Training on Neurodiversity

In November 2025, we organised a professional development workshop to support our instructors in working with our very own neurodiverse children and adults.

The training provided a comprehensive overview of neurodiversity, including appropriate terminology, sensory systems and profiles, self-regulation, overwhelm, and strategies for neurodivergent engagement.

The content was specifically tailored to enhance our ability to effectively assist and support our neurodiverse students during our circus/pole classes. The instructors who attended have already begun applying the strategies they learned.

As a studio, we have also:

✨ Improved our signposting around the studio to identify each learning space

✨ Filmed a studio tour for people who’ve never been to Inverted before, so they know what to expect when they arrive

✨ Enhanced our Chill Out Room to better support neurodiverse needs

🫶🏾 Please reach out if you require any additional support from us.

Thank you to our students who provide continuous feedback to help Inverted reach its goals of inclusivity. We appreciate you so much.

Our Projects

We bring together local circus artists and Aberdeen-based charities and organisations who work with people with neurodivergence and Additional Support Needs of all ages. Our projects are tailored for complete beginners with the aim of exploring what it’s like to be in the air.

In our programmes, we go over basic aerial shapes in a controlled and safe environment. The equipment will be rigged low and will be rigged over mats, so as to ensure maximum safety.

Our content is open-ended, with a strong focus on free play and spins. Our experience has shown that offering classes with a different intention to standardised commercial classes heightens the enjoyable experience for all participants.

Our instructors aresupported by staff from the partner organisations, all of whom will have accessible class aids for teaching.

We have collaborated with aerialist-poet Kris Nimmo and performer Grace Fromknecht, offering inclusive workshops to SensationALL and Linn Moor School.

We’re Open to new Collaborations!

We’re interested in creating a strong collaboration with charities and organisations throughout Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire. We want to learn how to make circus more accessible and more inclusive to people of all learning abilities and body types.

Please get in touch if you’re interested in working with us or if you’d like to know more about our current projects.
